Tekton Double Impacts

Anybody out there heard these??

I have dedicated audio room 14.5x20.5x9 ft.  Currently have Marantz Reference CD/Intergrated paired to Magnepan 1.7's with REL T-7 subs.  For the vast majority of music I love this system.  The only nit pick is that it is lacking/limited in covering say below 35 hz or so.  For the first time actually buzzed the panel with an organ sacd. Bummer.  Thought of upgrading subs to rythmicks but then I will need to high pass the 1.7's.  Really don't want to deal with that approach.

Enter the Double Impacts.  Many interesting things here.  Would certainly have a different set of strengths here.  Dynamics, claimed bottom octave coverage in one package, suspect a good match to current electronics.

I've read all the threads here so we do not need to rehash that.  Just wondering if others out there have FIRST HAND experience with these or other Tekton speakers

Thanks.

I have my eye on a used Peachtree Nova, which is Class D. It would mainly be for a secondary system pushing KEF LS50s in a small room, but I can’t help but wonder how it would sound with my DIs. Anyone heard this combo?
Thanks, everyone, for an informative thread. First post on Agon.

I am close to pulling the trigger on the DI’s. I currently am using Polk rti-A3 standpoint speakers and have their tweeters at ear level. With the DIs, the tweeter array will be quite a bit higher than my ears at my listening position. Does anybody else have the array above their ears? If so, is it a non-issue?

thanks!
Nope. Nothing peculiar about my room. It is 10’x19’ with an L-shaped opening on the 10’ side that my speakers reside at... which means the left speaker is 2’ from the side wall and the driver face is 3’ from the front wall but the right speaker opens up to the 8’x8’ dining room cavity.
When looking for replacement feet, does anyone know off the top of their head what the thread size is on the DIs? The Herbies website doesn’t list Tekton as an option.

thanks
For those who have the upgraded DI’s, what do your binding posts look like? Are they color coded? Polished brass? Dull/oxidized copper?

also, for those who use grilles, has the cabinet paint started to flake near where the grilles interact with the cabinet? Mine have started to flake on both cabinets.

Thanks.
Thank you all for your input. I think I will certainly contact Eric and Karma about the paint issue. The flakes/chips line up perfectly with the grill staples holding the grill cloth. That is the culprit.
I am glad I saw your grille pic. I like the sound of the woofers with grilles but miss the sparkle of the top half. I want to keep my current grilles and have thought about asking Eric for another half set...but I fear it may be a year until I get them, hehe. Yours look great!
Hi John. For me it is/was the following:

First = True = nothing fancy here. Glue visible on the backside, simple wood frame, cloth tight on frame with square corners, whereas the cabinets are rounded some.

Second = True = I got the standard black matte finish, and it is a bit rough, but it isn’t bad. The spray was even. My DIs are 10 months old, and there are more seams exposed than when they were new.

Third = True-ish = I had to keep on them about the grilles, as they weren’t shipped with the speakers. But my speakers arrived five days after order. That was pretty great!

best of luck
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts once they arrive, John, and the pairing with the PL. Be sure and listen to them without the grills as well. I really do love my upgraded DIs. They will be with me for many years.
Aniwolfe,

my ear is level with the array on my DIs, but I often recline where my ear is lower and becomes at the bottom or just below the array. I like the sound both ways, but the absolute crispness of center vocals when my ear is at the center is really hard to top.
Who has the Encores in their showroom, @bstatmeister? You mentioned they were a couple of hours drive from you. I would love to hear these after seeing jcarcopo’s gorgeous red ones and get a taste of that extra 15% in transparency. My 7’ ceilings may force me to only consider them after I move to a more appropriate room for them though.

@bstatmeister - it was a real pleasure having you over for the audition, and I am glad it was a positive one in relation to how the DIs compared with the many other brands and models you have been auditioning lately. Also, thanks for turning me on to Mike Oldfield’s Amarok as a demo disc!

@klh007 - thanks for pointing me to the Moabs! I want to hear both the Encores and Moabs now, as I can imagine the strengths of each configuration after living with the DIs for about a year and a half. And with @david_ten stating the Uthberts sound wonderful in a 12x16x8 room, I am less concerned about the negative effects my 7’ ceiling would have on either model.

@bstatmeister - Audio Advisor states the Nuforce STA200 is not compatible with 4 ohm speakers, so you would need to talk with Eric at Tekton and specifically request a different impedance than the base model.
@bullbuchanan , I also think you will be fine with an AVR. I am confident the speakers will outlive the AVR, and it might be wise to build around a pair of speakers you like the sound of vs an AVR.
I keep an AVR for movies and multichannel music, but I purchased an integrated amplifier with home theater bypass so that I could have the best of both worlds with my DIs.
Hey @bstatmeister ! Great to hear from you! I didn’t upgrade to the Moabs and think perhaps an upgrade in home is required before upgrading to Moabs, so I am still rock in’ my DI’s.

We’re you able to pick up a pair of Tektons yet?

I ended up yanking my center speaker and just use the phantom image of my DIs. Nothing I used sounded good, so I gave up. After a couple years of doing that, I don’t miss the center channel for movies, but I do miss it slightly for 5.1 music as I just use quad at the moment with KEF LS50s as rears. If I were to ever invest in my HT/5.1 setup again, I would get a Tekton center channel to match the DIs. But that would take a new room, so it likely will never happen...and I am totally at peace with that.
