Tekton Design Moab

Ordered a pair just now. In Dark Gray, to which Tammy immediately said, "Oh the Charcoal is beautiful!" Charcoal sounds better than Dark Gray (even though we are talking about the same color!) so Charcoal it is!

My beloved Talon Khorus do still sound awfully good. It will be interesting to see how the Moabs stock out of the box compare with these tweaked and modded warhorses. Both the strength, and the weakness, of the Khorus is using the 10" woofer to cover so much midrange. Its a strength because it makes for a very smooth and cohesive sound. But its a weakness because its asking a lot of such a large driver to go so high. Talon makes up for it with their isobaric design. Mounted inside and directly behind the woofer is another identical driver facing the opposite direction. The idea is this relieves the front facing driver of having to compress the air inside the cabinet. This does allow for a much faster response, and is a big reason for the wonderful music the Khorus produces.

I have a feeling however it is no match for Eric Alexander's ultra-low mass driver array solution. Only one way to know for sure. So we will just have to see!

@bruce19,

Be careful what you say...this is a happy go lucky thread about Tekton Mob. Let’s just keep it about Moab and not ruin the OP’s excitement regardless of what’s going around the nation even if he wants to downplay the epidemic that has crippled the world’s economy and severely impacted lives of millions.
HI,
Nice buy @millercarbon plenty of excitment till you figure out how it behaves in your room. I can see your smile. Colour should be beutiful too.
MC thanks for sharing your journey. I heard them at RMAF last year and they were on my top 5 of all rooms. Maybe you do this. I try to listen to a speaker weather it is a 127,000 dollar one or a 5,000 dollar one without knowing what it costs, and try not to give a lot of attention to what it looks like. That is so I can listen to it with the least of amount of influences and just get in tune with the speaker.  It's the sound that matters and not much else for me. And for me if a speaker sounds good it looks great. The Tekton Moabs like their family of speakers look more than good enough. However everything is different at home. Please continue to share your journey.
No experience with how they will sound; they visually remind me of old Bose 901's on steroids. Lots of drivers just vertical rather than horizontal. Based on designer claims in the past (making other speaker designs obsolete), I don't see Tekton in my future.

Congratulations on getting the Moabs. Choosing the 8 ohm impedance  speaker version makes much sense as it is an easier load for an amplifier to drive  I look forward to your listening impressions via your two amplifiers, Woo Audio  8 watt SET and the 300 watt transistor Bryston. Very curious how the Moab presentation varies when driven by the 2 amps which are drastically different in many aspects. This should be quite insightful as well as fun.
