Tekton Design Moab

Ordered a pair just now. In Dark Gray, to which Tammy immediately said, "Oh the Charcoal is beautiful!" Charcoal sounds better than Dark Gray (even though we are talking about the same color!) so Charcoal it is!

My beloved Talon Khorus do still sound awfully good. It will be interesting to see how the Moabs stock out of the box compare with these tweaked and modded warhorses. Both the strength, and the weakness, of the Khorus is using the 10" woofer to cover so much midrange. Its a strength because it makes for a very smooth and cohesive sound. But its a weakness because its asking a lot of such a large driver to go so high. Talon makes up for it with their isobaric design. Mounted inside and directly behind the woofer is another identical driver facing the opposite direction. The idea is this relieves the front facing driver of having to compress the air inside the cabinet. This does allow for a much faster response, and is a big reason for the wonderful music the Khorus produces.

I have a feeling however it is no match for Eric Alexander's ultra-low mass driver array solution. Only one way to know for sure. So we will just have to see!

This is kind of funny... @rbstehno is like a stalker. One might say borderline harasser. I’m not sure if one can summarize into words how bizarre his infatuation of mc appears. I find mc’s enthusiasm very infectious for many reasons, not to mention that based on his equipment, he seems to be a credible person who’s passionate about this hobby. Sure, he could say "in full transparency/ disclosure I’ve never heard them, but I did order after exhaustive research"...but that’s a caveat that I’m not entirely sure anyone gives a crap about other than 1 or 2 haters of either him Tekton, or both. I mean, no one is asking certain individuals to preface upfront with "I’m an over opinionated a-hole, that looks for reasons to call someone out"(I hope that’s an acceptable coined term for what we all understand is just not a very kind person). Keep in mind, I’m not saying any of the mentioned individuals are these things, just stating the obvious that there are douches in all walks of life....try to NOT be one. Nothing wrong with moving on to another thread that you would enjoy more, right?
To all; please remain humble, passionate, and a HEALTHY contributor in an aspect that you choose to tag your name in.
I’m one of the many believers in what Eric Alexander is doing. I have extensive experience with many of his models, as do my close friends. Like many of us, I’ve owned and heard too many products from different manufacturers to count, and again for the price point they are at, Tekton has checked more boxes for me than ANY other between $1-19k.
Btw, who gives a crap if he talks/calls Eric...REALLY, this is what the criticisms come down to...what the heck? I’ve talked to him and his SEVERAL employees many times (some said a 2 man shop...lmao that too funny...try 15+). Gotta love the know-it-alls. If mc was a nuisance, Eric wouldn’t field his calls, PERIOD. Back off and grow up!
Cheers and Happy listening
We have 2 identical set ups. I also have the Moabs with dual 4-10s in red. Photo is on virtual page
I’ve had my Moabs for a few weeks now and I’m not sure I’ll ever need another speaker. I ordered them with standard drivers, as I’m not fond of metal dome tweeters. A good friend of mine has Paradigm Tributes that incorporate beryllium tweeters and l find myself leaving his place more often than not with serious ear fatigue...ringing can last into the next day. In full transparency though, he has a whiskey or 2 too many and can get rather aggressive with the volume dial (cant we all though). He and I both use a Parasound P6 preamp. I however use a Parasound a21 amp and he uses Odyssey Stratos Extreme monoblocks. Coming from the Pendragons, which I still use as a 5.1 system, all i can say is WOW! The sweet midrange I’ve been missing is simply put, jaw dropping!!! These Moabs present such a 3 dimensional soundstage that has to be heard to be appreciated. That’s not to say that the Pendragons are bad, quite the opposite considering their price point. They really excel at what they do. The Moabs for me are just on another level in terms of believable/authentic music reproduction. Keep in mind, I listen to everything from hard rock to jazz, blues, and almost everything in between (minus polka and country). These Moabs do them all very well and without apologizing for it. Trust me when I say that I didnt understand what it truly meant for a speaker to disappear until night time came, the lights went down, and I started streaming "Jazz at the Pawnshop". For speakers this size in my space to pull that off is nothing short of breathtaking. I know there are Tekton haters out there that will dispute this claim, but I dont care and do not have the energy or desire to engage those types. Its simply put, exhausting and lacks any sort of appeal to engage with banter for a healthy debate. Given the hobby/passion we all share, it’s quite frankly sad. Everyone knows, it’s a given, that not one speaker or its manufacturer is for everyone. I’m just thrilled I found one that resonates with my ears. After 30+ years of buying, selling, and trading gear, someone would have to pry these Moabs out of my cold dead hands before they leave the company of my presence.
To those who hate just to simply hate, I truly wish you the best on your quest to find your particular speakers that bring bliss to your ears. I’ve found mine and will continue a different path, that path is growing my "favorites" library via Qobuz with a smile that seems to be permanently pasted on my face every time I hit play and hear my "MIGHTY MOABS"
Cheers and happy listening!!!
I’ll start by saying I think they are 80% of what you should expect right out of the box. Maybe after 20 additional hours they’ll show their long-term sound signature. Just my opinion, but the midrange seems to have really blossomed. Mind you, I’m not a professional reviewer, and may lack the proper adjectives that the persnickety ones may not approve of, thus commence mocking me....so be it, small men hide behind keyboards.
Back on point...its hard to say how many total hours I have on them. For example, I have about 15k into my home theater and find myself listening to music almost all day, which isn’t an uncommon thing when you ask Tekton owners (less and less movies and more tunes). If in doubt of that comment, I urge you to join the Tekton Owners Group on FB and ask). I work from home , like many of us do nowadays, so I can literally lose an entire 8 hours to music and work. If I had to spitball a guess, I’d say that they have roughly between 100-125 hours on them. In full transparency, today after reading some comments on a McIntosh page, I turned off my subs for the first time. I’ll tell ya, subs are definitely not necessary, which is probably stating the obvious, but it’s been an enjoyable 9 hours at this point of some great tunes averaging probably 90db (peaks of 115db and lows of 70db). I NEVER get a so much as a hint of ear fatigue. I’m super happy I went sans beryllium tweeter.
Just a glimpse of some speakers that I’m very familiar with spending copious amounts of time with:
*B&W 700s and 800s
*Paradigm models from the 90s and 2000s
*Infinity
*Klipsch Forte 3s and Cornwalls
*Bryston
*Triton Reference and the 7s
*Kef 700 and 900 (passed on the Blades)
And a ton of lesser $ stuff from Elac to DIY
The Moabs aren’t the best speaker out there (again stating the obvious), but as a whole they check more boxes FOR ME (capped for haters) than any single speaker I’ve heard up to this point in my 30 year venture down the audiophile rabbit hole...PERIOD!

Hope this helps give you some clarity.
Cheers and happy listening!
90 is the peak average (spl weighted c slow). As you know, that means hovering in the low 80s as a constant.
I totally appreciate what you're saying and completely agree.
Thank you!
Nor does Po ever answer any questions directed at him. One example I remember reading is, which 2-4k speakers sound better than the Moab, or have better value? He reminds me of what’s wrong with too many posters on any number of forums nowadays...he just a keyboard warrior who hides behind a screen typing away with nonsensical blathering comments that supports his narrative to bash on Tekton or anything else that doesn’t align with his agenda or beliefs. It’s quite nauseating really. Some people just like to piss in the punch bowl, and he fits that bill to a tee. Negativity surrounds people like him and to that I say, I’m truly sorry for those types. Friendships and happiness might be a real struggle for those types.

Hey Po, YOU’RE RIGHT AND ALWAYS HAVE BEEN! Cheers and happy listening man!
