Which B&W 801 do you mean old or new? I have to say that the Tannoy TD12 is a very warm and slightly woody sound. The tweeter can take some getting used to. But placement is important. I would think the 801 would take and need more power to be as dynamic.
I work with the new B&W 802D these days with insane power on them. They are a great speaker although for hifi and private listening I am a planar man!
