System not playing higher resolution flac files

System

 Bryston BDP 2 streamer /transport
Coax rca connection
Audio Note dac 3.1
Bryston stock interface.

I recently changed to the bdp 2 as my source. I could no be happier with the sound upgrade over my previous source which was a laptop to dac with a profigy analogue digital converter in between.

I have now come accross a few flac files that will not play. They show they are playing on the interface but not coming out of the bdp2. I noticed these are files with a bitrate of 4000+kpbs range. They played fine on my previous setup. Flac files lower than that kbps play fine.

I have no idea why this is happening. Hopefully some one has an answer.

Thanks in advance for any help

Check the Audio Note.  S/PDIF connections are relatively limited compared to USB.

Don't know anything about your prior setup, but some programs will downsample higher rez files to a sample/bit rate that is playable. An example of this is the Squeezebox Touch player being fed by by a PC using the LMS program. The Touch will only go to 24/96K, but LMS will downsample 192K files to 96K which is playable on the Touch. Your old system may have done this, while it sounds like the BDP2 is sending the higher and unplayable bit rate to your DAC.
I used foobar20000 on my laptop to a prodigy converter to the DAC. The DAC does not have a usb input only the rca coaxial.

So what I am hearing is there is nothing I can do about. The DAC won't play them. Period.

Is that right?
