Synergistic HFT’s with Martin Logan’s


Is anyone using synergistic HFT/FEQ with Martin Logan’s, or any other panel or electrostatic-speakers? Any placement notes??? I was thinking I could expand my sweet spot... I started with 12 HFT and ended up creating this space that sounds huge... notes just hang in the air forever. The speakers are still there, but I haven’t received my FEQ yet, and I haven’t done the speaker HFT speaker kits. 
What are your thoughts ?

I own Prodigys, with many HFTs applied.
Better sound, yes, expand sweet spot, NO,
since the HFTs can accentuate the 30 degree
curve of the panels, not work "against" it.
Maybe this is not an issue for you?

I would start with Wide Angle HFTs, I think these
offer the best sound and dollar value, in treating
your room.  The FEQ works well, too.

I mount HFTs on sea glass pieces before attaching
to stat panels, using blue stick.

You are on the right track, for sure!
Buy yourself a bag, online.  Use quarter size pieces,
quarter inch thickness is good.  Color and irregular
shapes are not important.  One side of the glass can
be smoother than the other.

Improves the effect of HFTs, IMHO, rather than just
sticking them on the stat panels...
  I have a total of 18 hft's in my room consisting of  wide angles, X , 2.0 and normal. Made a big difference in sound but as stated not the sweet spot.

  I also have the hft. There is new one out now 4 times stronger than the original.

  I haven't bought the hft's for the speakers. I am not sure if they work with Martin logans.

Too much of anything can have a negative effect.
For me, too many HFTs on the same wall hurts the sound.

I am not seeing it.  Did they contact you with some kind
of advance notice?

Is it your personal experience that "not sure if they work"
or just your armchair wisdom?

Looks like you're on a roll, "three for three"... what other
gems are you holding back?
I concur with sgordon.  I have one of these and, although I don't have much time with it yet, I like what it does.

Hello, I am new here on Audiogon. Please allow me to introduce myself briefly:

My name is Rino, I am 66 years of age and I have been fiddling with HiFi for more than 45 years. It has always been my aim to achieve the best possible sound spending the least possible money.

I am fully aware that this thread is a few years old. Despite that I hope to be able to wake some of you up to receive some long-time experience from you on the Synergistic Research HFT "Buttons".

I myself, living in Germany, by coincidence stumbled over this Product a few weeks ago. Now after having installed some DIY HFT “Buttons” - all 4 Levels plus the speaker Kit. I am looking for possible optimizations moving the HFT´s (up/down, back/forth, right and left) to obtain the best results.

My System contains of:

  • Turntable Systemdek IIS with Helios Scorpio tome arm and Ortofon MC 20 S cartridge
  • Audio Innovations Series 1000 Moving Coil Impenance Matching Transformer
  • Cambridge cxc CD drive
  • Audio Note DAC 1
  • Audio Note Preamp M1 Phono
  • Two Audio Innovations S800 Stereo Main Amps, driven in vertical passive bi-amping
  • Martin Logan Aerius (not i) - Panels renewed 4 years ago and X-over components upgraded

Allow me to break the silence.

I finished placing some DIY Transducers named "Ossinators" here on the forum in an other thread.

Here is how I placed them:

Ceiling: One in the middle of the listening room and each one in the middle above the ML speakers. - in all 3

Front wall: each two on the front wall between the speakers, 6 inches from the inner speaker edges plus each two exactly above 6 feet from the floor. Another in the middle between the speakers 2 inches below the ceiling and the last one also in the middle between the speakers 2 inches above the floor. - in all 6

Side Walls: each 3 two inches down from the ceiling - each one in the front corner, next each one at listening level and each one in the rear corner (behind the listening level). Finally each one in the lower from corners 2 inches above the floor. - in all 2x4

Rear wall: one in the middle above the listening position, 2 inches below the ceiling. - in all 1

On the speakers: One at the back a bit above the middle, one on the top panel frame (middle) each one inner side and outer side on the panel frame - the inner ones at listening height and the outer ones 1 - 1,5 feet higher. - in all 4

All together 22 small "buttons" distributed as explained above.

Audible result: The sweet spot got a bit bigger, not as much as I hoped for. The instruments are far better distributed and better pinpointed. The bass is firmer.

All in all the sound stage is tidier and more holographic and far more pleasant to listen to.

I hope this my small report attracts your attention and animates you to share your experiences.
