Subwoofer for Audio Physic Virgos........

First of all, anyone who has not heard the Virgos go out and do so. They are all you could want in a speaker. Audio Physic started producing them in 1995, they just upgraded to the Virgo II's in 2002; so a lot of audiophiles have listened and plunked down their money. Anyway, the only thing lacking is true bottom end extension. The bass they have is tight and accurate. Anyone have any success, tell me your set up. Any opinions on the Velodyne HGS-18, Velodyne ULD-18, and the AP Rhea? Thank you, this board is great........

I owned a pair of virgos for years and sold them a year or so ago. Went for the wilson wp6's. Anyway, you're right the virgos are a steal and really the best thing going under 15K or so. I have heard them with the AP subs. I think you need to stick in the AP lineup to keep the same tuneful tight bass you like now. anthing else, and you inviting some mismatches. Nothing againsts other subs, the ap are made for what you want to do.
I just heard James Loudspeakers subwoofer. They make 2 but the small one is really impressive. Isobarik loaded, with a few exceptions it is possibly the best sub I've heard with music. The few exceptions are in a different price point altogether.
I personally had great sound and very good in-room measurements using Virgo II's and a Velodyne HGS-18. It was set for the lowest crossover point at 40hz and matched nicely with the Virgo's 3db down point.
