Subwoofer amp question.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I have been looking at replacement plate amplifiers for my Totem Dreamcatcher subwoofer that is part of my Dreamcatcher 5.1 HT setup. The stock plate amp is broken and no longer available. I have been looking at replacement BASH and Dayton Audio amps. However, it just occurred to me that my B&K 307 HT receiver allows for the control and setting of level, xover freq, slope and phase of the 5.1 SUBWOOFER out signal (line level). IOW, all that the simple original plate amp does (did). Is there any reason that I could not simply use a basic power amp (perhaps with level control for a little more flexibility) to power the now passive Totem sub and control all the parameters at the receiver?
