Hi Goheelz---I really like the Heed Quasar, it's a good match with the 17D3 cart; it's neutral, fast, and detailed, with great extension at both ends and plenty of soundstaging and "air". It has plenty of gain for low-output MCs. It has an outboard power supply, which I suspect contributes to it's performance. When I tried loading the Dynavector at the "standard" 100 ohms, however, the sound was somewhat dead and closed-in; changing the loading to 220 ohms really brought the sound to life.

I notice that you're using the Dynavector P75 in your system. A while back I bought one from Music Direct and used it for a month or so, but found that the noise floor rose to an unacceptable level when I tried using it in enhanced mode, so I sent it back.

As pleased as I am with the sound of the Heed, I'm curious how much of an improvement a carefully chosen step-up transformer would bring to my set-up.---Will
I have never heard the Dynavector 17D3 but I have owned the Te Kaitora Rua and XV-1s and I am using it with a ZYX CCP-1 (not a transformer). I had good results with the Dynavector PHA-200 as well. The Ortofon T20 is another good one (cheap). I hade a real mismatch with the Lundahl-transformer (1681) wiht the Dynavectors.

If you go with a transformer, make sure it will match your cartridge, because you could go really wrong here.

I mean to say "Heed Audio Quasar" of course. Sorry about the spelling glitch.
How do you like the Heed Qudio Quasar phono preamp that you are currently using? Are you planning to switch that out?
Never use Dyna but I am using K&K SUT with Benz Wood L2 and Zu103 DL and it gives warm and sweet and smooth midrange compared to the PS Audio's MC mode.
