Songs At The Lake Music Festival

Howdy Agoners,

Went to the Songs At The Lake Festival this past weekend and thought I would try and get the word out about this thing. Held at the speed skating oval in Lake Placid, it was a two day deal with performers the likes of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Los Lobos, Little Feat, Rodney Crowell, Roseanne Cash, Tony Joe White, Guy Clark and many others. $79 for two days, over 15 bands, do the math. All this and it was also for charity, The City Of Hope. All the performers graciously signed autographs afterwards. The problem, there was hardly anybody there, what a shame. They said that they would have it one more year and if the turnout was no better, then they would have to cancel it. I just wanted to give y'all a heads-up, so that next year if you see this advertised and you can make it, you should go. I have nothing to do with the festival, just a huge fan of these types of things.

Lake Placid is a pretty cool place with all the Olympic history, etc. The show was right next to the skating rink where the US won the gold medal in 1980, all open to the public. In fact, that is where the bands hung out before going onstage.

The best performers IMHO: Sonny Landreth - (the best guitar player on the planet?) and a band from the Ithaca, NY area called Donna The Buffalo. MUY excellente!

If you see this next year, try to get there.

Ciao

I was there on Saturday. I agree the crowd was too small. However, the festival clashed with several others in the Northeast.

Syracuse was having a jazz fest. Burlington was having its folk fest.

Too much to do during the summer!!!!

Enjoy the music!!!!
