This is a variation on the "Favorite song" (or Classical composition) choice, as this title should in some way be related to mortality. Can you tell I'm approaching the end of mine? For me the choice is obvious; imo one of the three greatest songs I've ever heard (the other two being "What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted" and "No Time To Cry"): "God Only Knows", music by Brian Wilson, lyrics by Tony Asher, recorded by The Beach Boys in 1965. Light years above what anyone else in Pop music (or even Classical and Jazz) was doing at the time (or has done since), including The gd Beatles.

Hmmm...I think about this often, having attended too many funerals and wakes over the years. My grandmother requested “Ave Maria” at hers, and I always think of her when I hear it. A friend died much too early back in the early 90s, and they played “Calling All Angels” by Jane Siberry. I think I would like Warren Zevon’s “ Keep Me In Your Heart”. Maybe Sly and the Family Stone “Life”, or Funkadelic “Can You Get To That”.

When I went to my Mothers funeral the reverend said- I'm going to play a song that was requested by Beatrice when she was still alive. Then he motioned to someone to start the song, I had no idea what song she picked. Then i heard "I Have Friends In Low Places" by Garth Brooks! Everybody chuckled as my Mother had cheered us up from beyond! Tish
As I hope mine to be a Christian funeral the best possible thing ever written is Bach's Cantata # 106, the title of which translated to English is , "Gods Time is the Best . "
Somehow , for me at least , I think that's better than a pagan party .
And.... I want some barflies to get into a huge fight over me during the service. My friends will be in on the joke, but the family will be horrified. The perfect send-off.
One of the Late Quartets by Beethoven, No.15 Opus 132 would be my choice performed by Quartetto Italiano. A truly sublime piece. It would actually have to be performed by them at the funeral service. I would expect nothing less from my family and friends to organize it, considering how much I've done for them.
