single mid/woofer vs dual: TMW vs MTMWW

I have Wilson Audio Sophia with tweeter, 7 mid & 10 woofer. I am considering another similarly priced speaker that is a 3-way 5 driver design with MTM-6.5 mids and dual 7.5 woofers. Without trying to compare brands I will leave the candidate generic. Its specs are very similar to the Sophias in terms of freq response and sensitivity. The main difference is their impedance. The Sophias are 3 ohm nominal and the other is 6. I was looking through the forum about comparing larger to smaller drivers in regards to dispersion and was still curious if there are any generalizations that could be expected for this comparison. My room is very large and open behind me. I sit in a 9ft triangle at one end but the overall space is about 16x40x10. I am in the front room of my house and the living and dining rooms are behind me. They have very large opening at the divisions so only small partial walls. I have an Audio Research integrated with 75wpc. I am very happy with the sound but just curious as we all mostly understand. The only limitation I am experiencing since going to this integrated from separates is occasional bass dropout at high volumes. It doesn’t happen often but that was one thing I am curious is how an amp can handle dual 7.5 woofers compared to a single 10. I should probably take millercarbon’s advice and try to make my next move in the mid 90s+ for sensitivity to be a better match with my amp. I really got fixated on this candidate speaker so it is hard to shake it from my brain. The purchase would be used so demo is not an option...just go for it and deal with trying to resell if unhappy. Thanks for your thoughts......Dana

No. You can't compare complete speaker products this way.  You are far better naming the specific speakers you are thinking about so you can get contextual help with the entire speaker system in mind.
