Secondary Turntable

I have about 100 jazz albums that sat in someone's garage for decades.

Also, I have about 30 albums that are old but new and recent new pressings.

I bought the secondary to play the old albums. (I thoroughly cleaned them with distilled water, micro-fiber cloth, hair dryer on cool) But they do have scratches and the normal noise. I didn't want to use my expensive cartridge on them.

It is a Thorens 2010. It isn't complex. But I am having tonearm (TP250) setup issues. Is anyone on this forum familiar with this model? Can give me some pointers?

Brief summary of the main issue: when I raise the tonearm with the lift, it did not lift the tonearm above the platter; I raised the tonearm as high as seemed safe or within common sense. (There is a clamp at the base with an allen screw to loosen or tighten the tonearm after raising or lowering) The stylus clears the album now, but barely. I can't get a gauge under it. And I do worry about a thick album......

Thank you for taking the time to read and consider this question. And I probably will have more questions as I get to know this thing.

Meanwhile I will carefully play older albums.
