I saw him when he was the lead singer of Hawkwind in 1974. One of the weirdest shows I have ever seen in my life.

I am really surprised there aren't more comments about Lemmys passing. I guess this website is really more about equipment than music.

Taters, I don't think there's a big base for heavy rock here.  I could be wrong about that.
I'm a guitar teacher and I get to hear a broad range of styles and artists I might not otherwise be exposed to.  In over 30 years of my work I'm not sure I've ever had a Motorhead tune brought in by a student.
+1 tostadosunidos. I appreciate heavy rock, given at least a trace of avant garde wit(e.g. Soundgarden, Urge Overkill, Queens of the Stone Age, Husker Du, Alice in Chains-- maybe even Anthrax in a certain mood.) But Motorhead will be remembered as a mere head-banging asterisk IMHO.
I think that Lemmy was always fun to watch because of his larger than life personality. Regardless of whether or not you appreciated his music, I always enjoyed his partying antics particularly with women because as he would freely admit- Lemmy was one of the ugliest front men in rock and roll history. Yet, he always seemed to have beautiful women hanging on each arm because his emphasis was on the music and enjoying life.
