Nicely written review, Gme109. I can't help but notice a couple things, though.
No offense intended, but you have no history at all on this forum, and your review sounds practically like advertising copy, so I must take your comments with a very large asterisk (which is no reflection on any possible qualities of the product reviewed).
Second, assuming you're not pimping this product with an ulterior motive, I notice you don't list any power-conditioning products in your system, don't say whether or not you've installed any kind of improved or dedicated AC lines, fail to mention what individual effects the PC may have had on your amp and player as two different matters separate from one another, and don't list any of your PC upgrade costs beyond the first VD product you started with.
Please don't let my provisos put you off - if you intend to stay and contribute your straight-up best, then I say welcome as your first respondent, and look forward to your reply. (On the other hand, if I never see anything additional from you, then this review will be politely discarded.) Hey, we're a pretty nice bunch, but no one ever said we were easy! :-)
P.S. - I want to note for the record that all of Gme109's sales feedback so far is 100% positive. |
GME109. I use a VD audition on the sim4070se directly into the wall. It was major improvement. I use a cro'd vd power2 extension on the monster HTS2000 into which I plug everthing else. This improved it again. Note, Rick at VD likes his PC's run directly into wall. However, I found the vd power 'extension' cord placed on the monster gives me very good improvement. Power cords can make a difference and I fully agree with your idea of trying one first, before throwing money at a upgrade. It is money well spent for me. |

Theniels, thanks for the link, but truthfully, I see nothing wrong with posting the same review on two different sites in what looks like a simple cut and paste job from the same person! Perhaps this fact should have been mentioned by Gme109 in his initial post (clearly he is a new Audiogon member, so that may explain the delay) but it does nothing to discredit his views. I have not heard any of the high end Virtual Dynamics power cords but loved the Power 3 cord (at $70 each factory direct) so much that I ended up with 9 of them in my systems! Like so many A'gon members, I have a great deal of respect for the Virtual Dynamics product line and for the tremendous customer service offered by Rick and Brett!!! |
Wmcmanus, Gme109 is not a new member, just a new forum poster. He has A'gon sales feedback (positive, as I noted above) going back about 1 1/2 years. (FWIW, all of his transactions look to be sales, but I wouldn't know what of.) I think an explanation of Theniels findings by Gme109 would not be out of order. In fact, the second part of Theniels findings, if correct, is worthy of comment by VD. (But, perhaps ironically, I am duty-bound to note that Theniels has also made his first-ever forum post with this thread, and has no A'gon history in any capacity. Make of all this what you will.) |

Yes this was my first post on Audiogon and I did post the same review on Audio Asylum a while back. I have as others have pointed out, sold several items on Audiogon and have a history of posting on AA. To answer a few questions, I plug my amp and cd player directly into the wall. I was using a Audio Prism Foundation III line conditioner until I tried Ricks 2i power cords. Everything sounded better plugged right into the outlet. This was the first time I had these results with a power cord, all others still benefited from the line conditioner. I was so blown away by what Rick's $125 power cord could do that I upgraded to his $250 Audition power cords and now as my review states I'm using the Nite on my Accuphase 65 V.
Also in respose to Zaikesman's post, no offense is taken, it's good to be some what suspicious of people's motives. But I can assure you I have no ulterior motives to posting a postive review on Virtual Dynamics prouducts. I'm just an audiophile like the rest of you who wanted to share my enthusiasm about a killer prouduct.

At the risk of starting yet another series of issues unrelated to sound quality but directed at personal integrity, I too am new to Audigon but not to the pursuit of audio excellence. I purchased Power 1 cords to upgrade my Lindemann D680, newly purchased. I had what I thought were upgraded audiophile cords in the rest of my system and both a Furman IT 1210 voltage regulator and Furman AR 1215 Balanced Power generator, which really dropped the noise level to black. HOWEVER, I was so impressed with the Power 1 cords, I purchased a NITE cord for the audio portion of the Lindemann (two separate power supplies), a NITE cord for the PASS LABS X-1, and an Audition cord for the Krell Reference phono preamp (budgets do exist). While they are still "burning in" -- 200 hours is standard, they have proven to be an improvement over the very fine Power 1 cord AND a substantial improvement in riding my system of an "electronic haze" that I thought was pretty much on the recordings. Gone is the edgy harshness, found is a wider, deeper soundstage and an effortless, flowing, believable musical presentation -- you are much, much closer to "there." The background is not black, it is not even present in the same sense of a live performance. Since the Lindemann is also fairly new, I found this improvement on both CD/HDCD/SACD and vinyl playback on recordings that I am very familiar with. I have a new found respect for recording engineers and much admiration for Virtual Dynamics. I used the "extra" Power 1 on my Sony DVP 9000 es, and the DVP playback on my screen improved in color saturation and tint/hue. The only reason I am taking the time to write this is for others to consider them, as I appreciate the information on this forum and can try things for myself. But it is nice to limit the field so that my "trials" don't always deadend in disappointment. For those how may find a discrepancy between my rating and this comment, I mistakenly keyed in Power 3 rather than Power 1, believing Power 3 was "higher" than 1, rather than being lower. |

power cords 1 VD nite/ 1 Elrod EPS3/ 1 EG KG/ 1 EG Fatman K and I have tried a few more cords of lesser value.
I bought the nite first and per Rick's instructions placed it on my Onkyo. Even though this piece is not that great, the nite power cord made a big difference in mainly digital harshness. It did not do a lot more that I could tell, because my system is very quiet to start with. Power conditioner with two seperate power circuits all the way to a seperate ground rod(it is worth the time and money). I could really tell the difference thru my Grado headphones and Creek headphone amp. I know that sounds crazy, but at night I listen to something easy to help relax me and after the nite power cord was fully broken-in the music was greatly improved (no harshness at all). I tried it on the other pieces with little or no change and that was the reason for the other power cords.
