removing Lenco L78 platter

Hi, what is the best way to remove the platter from my Lenco L78 turntable, as it is stuck and I can't remove it?

Grasp the edge of platter, take a rubber mallet and tap the spindle gently as you pull up. If you don't have a mallet, use a hammer and place a rag over spindle.
