Recording vinyl woes

Hello all,

I have a Marantz DR17 and would like to record some of my vinyl. Problem is, its been ten years and I no longer have any of the TDK blanks I used to use that worked well. I have Verbatim and Staples discs now, but they will not work in the recorder, only in my CD drive.

Anyone here also using a standalone CD recorder ( preferably Marantz or Phillips ) that could tell me what CDR works in their recorder.

Thanks,                         Crazy Bill

I don't know if someone else can chime in here but as far as I can recall the disc that you use in these recorders is either Recordable CD + or - as there are two types. Hope this helps.

The blanks I used in my non-commercial Pioneer were labeled "digital audio" (it would only recognize blanks marked as such to record).

Here's an old chat about it.

You need Music CDRs that have paid a royalty for the priveledge of being functional. They were a tough task to acquire years ago.

Good luck

CD-RWs last for years if you can get them.

Amazon appears to have TDK CD-R's and at a fairly reasonable price.

But only 2 left so better hurry! ;-)

Do a search on Amazon for Music CD-R. There are some of them there.  ebay has a lot of them.  It appears that Maxell is still making them.

I’d say Ebay is your friend. I have bought countless brand new blank cassette tapes, cd-r’s, blank mini disc’s, you name it. All still factory sealed and In good usable/functioning shape. I do prefer to put my vinyl on high quality cassette tapes, as it retains its analog qualities. However, I can see a reason to use a cd-r if that is all you have and want to play it in a digital device etc...

thanks guys for all your help.

I went to Amazon and found Maxell cdr that appears will work. Got a couple on the way. I'll report back after I try them.

FWIW, I don't do this for my use. To me ( I'm sorry digital guys ), but all digital  pales in comparison to my vinyl rig. I can't listen to it. I make these CDs for friends as gifts or to get one of my wifes albums on CD to play in her car.

Cheers,                 Crazy Bill

Hello all,

Maxell cdr sourced from Amazon loaded properly and was recognized by my DR17. While I didn't have time yet to actually make a recording, I don't expect any issues.

thanks for all the advice
