My bad, I just realized that I goofed. The turntable was a Technics SP-10, not the linear tracking SL-10. Sorry for the slip.
Record Technology Inc featured on PBS
This weekend I happened to catch a program on PBS that features small businesses. The company featured was Record Technology Incorporated, supposedly the finest pressers of 180g vinyl records.

Anyhow, in an interview with the owner, I couldn't help but notice some of the equipment around him. He had what appeared to be a Technics SL-10 with the obsidian base, didn't recognize the arm. He also had two sets of speakers set up, some mini monitors on stands and a pair of 2-way floorstanders that appeared to be Totem Arrows, or a similar design.
Here's what I found interesting. The interviewer asked how the business survived the cd revolution in the early '80s. He said that audiophiles kept him in business. The interviewer asked what an audiophile was; here is a paraphrase of the answer:
Audiophiles are music lovers that take their music and equipment very seriously. It's a way of life for them. They own high end audio equipment that most people will never see. A high end cd player can cost $20,000 or more. A high end turntable can cost even more, and that's without an arm or cartridge.
Just thought this might be of interest to someone.
