Real life, Lived With 'Um - evaluation of the JBL L25 (similar L26?) speakers...

Hello to all...

Bought a pair of White Cabinet JBL L25s about a month ago after hearing them in a local record store; thought I heard greatness lurking in the sound I heard...

Have scoured the web and find smatterings and blurbs about them (and the L26*)

I have hooked them up to my Phillips High Fidelity Labratories Pre-Amplifier (1980) , and tried using the Main-Ins on my Onkyo A7 (more detail) and a Sansui Model 6 receiver (warmer)...

Any real life reviews from those who may have had these in their system for awhile... have read that the *L26 is similar, but not as Way-Out Kool-Looking as the L25, and with a difference in the composition of the cabinet...

Anyone ever play with the Cats? Tweeks and mods would be helpful...

AND WOULD THESE BENEFIT FROM CONVERTING THEM TO BIWIRE (take out the crossovers and add 2 pairs of upgraded posts out the back?)

ALSO: Presently listening to these vertically (as opposed to horizontally as the JBL Badge inside reads); would that greatly effect (affect?) the sound coming from them ( I have them about 5' center to center apart, about 1' from the back wall and toed-in so I can see the inside of the speaker as a flat plane; sound focused since I am about 7 feel away from them - YES I know it's really close but I've got so little space as my listening area...)

I'd appreciate any info/remeniscing/suggestions... Thanks in advance.

I had a pair of the JBL L26's in the late 70"s and early 80"s They were seemingly indestructible and I abused them quite frequently.
My amp was an advent model 300 receiver a no nonsense little unit  that boasted a whooping 15 watts per channel....  yet incredibly I was able to play the JBL;s at ear splitting levels. Needed more bass and now I know why the L26's probably didn't do so well with deep bass...15 watts. Had no idea back then, I just wanted to party. Pink Floyd, Jeff Beck, Joe Walsh, The Cars, Boston, Santana, ...you get the picture.
The L26's lasted a long time between several moves and beer party;s and beer party's... and were even stolen from me one time but I hunted them down and found them.
My ex wife and I fought over them but there was no way she was keeping them! Finally the woofer foam rotted, the tweeters were push in by my kids and I dropped out of the listening hobby. I think they ended up at my ex wifes house and she had them re foamed but I lost track of what happened to them. Not sorry one second that I bought them, they provided me with almost a decade of great listening .
