Well you asked this question a while ago but I'll give my $.02 anyway.
I purchased a fully modded Trio C-100 a week ago and have been listening to it daily (nightly really) and have to say I like it. It seems very well built from the outside. I will open it up one of these days to check the parts quality as usual.
If you're looking for simplicity this amp will do it.
I'd be curious to know which way you went on this.
