Powervar Mods?

I just purchased a Powervar line conditioner (12-amp version). It's clear the stock power cord and outlets are crappy, so I'd like to upgrade them. Looking inside the unit, this doesn't seem like a very easy or simple task. Anybody done these mods, and can offer step-by-step instructions?
