I have never had the red stand for anything other than "hot" or plus (+) on any component. The only time you would not match up the plus (+) with the plus and the minus (-) with the minus is if another component in the system is phase inverting. Usually this would be the preamp. Your owners manual would alert you to this so you could correct at the speakers by reversing the procedure I have suggested.
