Pioneer BDP-05FD hdmi handshake issues

Sorry to report the replacement BDP-05FD now has same problem as last one, no video thru hdmi.
Was working fine until unplugged, then no video thru hdmi, had to hook up component to get signal but won't go back to hdmi. Same thing happened with the show model when we unplugged it to test the first lemon.

Guess Ill be returning this one for a ps3 or a panny, really wanted audio out tho, suggestions?

Exchanged it at BB for another 05 and now have 1080p.
Difference is that this new 05 was setup with hdmi only and a 1080p tv from the get go. Other must have got some bad mojo on intial setup. Sales guys at BB could not get hdmi video out to work either. We tried several different setups, none worked.
Now that I have 1080p Im switching back and forth to compare between DirectTV 1080i and EagleEye movie in 1080p and they both have very, very good visuals on the kuro151.
The difference between 1080p and 1080i are more subtle than expected, probably because this TV is so damn good it makes everything look good.
Think Im all set for a while.

I run my Panny 35 via HDMI into an Onkyo 805 and then HDMI from the 805 to my display. Its a direct pass through and doesn't alter the signal at all. I've tried it both ways to be sure (i.e. from the panny straight to the display) and there's no difference in quality that I can discern.

Yes quality does differ lots, currently find my viewing driven by picture quality rather than content. Water is fascinating on the 151, you can see down into it. Apparently Rambo3 is supposed to be outstanding on bluray, if I can sit thru it again I will watch for the effects.

Maybe part of the problem is I am going directly from the 05 to the plasma for video, skipping the receiver, then sending audio ou thru the analogues to my multichannel cj pre/amp.
I purchased the 05 with the intent of using its dac and analagoes out. Alternatively I have the denon 5900 and 5803AVR setup with dvi to my sony crt for 1080i( which now is matched by DTV-HD). Currently using the 5803 to power 16 ceiling speakers (8"NHT), but I may use the 5803 as pre-preamp.

I also had issues doing hdmi to the receiver and component to the tv which was to the older crt mits I owned.
If you look around there isn't much dif. in video quality between the good players. This is in the opinion of a respected member at avs. /mine,2.
I tried to get the Panny 35--or the 55 but they are both discontinued---there is a new series coming soon.
Last night I watched "The Craft" from my dvr. That pq was as good as anything I have ever seen. HD quality differs and once in a while it is superb;esp. on a great display.

My BDP-05FD>BlueJean HDMI 1.3>Pioneer Elite SC-07 receiver>BlueJean HDMI 1.3>151FD. Has worked fine and has played every disc. My only nit is how long it takes a disc to que up.

sounds like an output priorty issue due to running both component and hdmi into the 151. Will unplug and try and reboot.

This BD thing has been the biggest pain/format,I've ever encountered. Part of the problem is the discs themselves. It seems you can have the latest firmware and 2 weeks later a new disc won't play. I actually have 3 BD players and a HD-DVD player.---Which reminds me of the old Chinese saying: Man with a god watch always knows what time it is--Man with 2 watches is never quite sure. Everything about bluray is still a bit glitchy, gone to market to soon, and Ive always been a denon guy, pioneer is different
Watched Natl treasure2 on bluray last night and today got DirectTVHD hooked up where Im watching the same movie right now onthe 60" pio151 and it is the same image quality, 1080i outstanding, but 30 minutes in I am already taking the HD for granted. Wait no Im not, wow this TV is something.
The bluray player should be even better if I can get past this glitch.

Avguygeorge, I would suggest a Panasonic bdp player. I've owned the Panasonic bdp-30 and bdp-35 and have yet to encounter a bd disc they would not play. My first player was a Samsung about a year ago and with that player I had the experiences you describe. However, the panny's have been flawless.

Sorry to be against the grain but I have the "older" BDP'95 FD. Mine goes into the Denon '4308ci.---then along to the 6020 plasma. I can do 24 fps. I actually paid the full retail of a grand; BB was the only place I could find one. I gave some thought to the '09 at big bucks---I also gave some thought to the Sony 5000,but I refuse to pay that much and not have frame advance---which has been on every dvd player since they came out.

I have the exact same set up and am really unimpressed with the build quality of the bdp-05. Mine is currently being fixed for the second time in less than a year. I would not recommend this player especially at its retail price. Also, weren't we supposed to have a firmware update allowing for internal decoding of dts-hd about a month ago? Sorry for the rant, but I understand your reaction to the bdp-05 and hope your experience doesn't turn out to be as bad as mine has been. Good luck with your current issue.

I first connected the bdp-05 to my sony crt where the initial setup took place. Then when connected via hdmi to the 151 plasma got audio but no video, and setup was greyed out. Unplugging and switching to component did not help.

Maybe by using analogue outs it eliminates video out via hdmi, or the firmware update had some adverse effect upon rerunning initial setup.
Thought pioneer to pioneer would shake hands better. Anyone with similar experience?
