I reviewed both and went for the Doshi stand alone...Nuff said.

I own a full-function Alaap and have A/B'd vs. the separates (in both my own system and in two of Nick Doshi's home systems).
The Alaap is renowned for its effortless speed and great dynamic range (among other attributes). The separates provide even more of these, which is a good thing.
If you have the means and space, the separates are the way to go.
