Phono preamp suggestions for a Plinius Integrated

I am trying to get an idea what I would have to spend to get a better quality phono pre than what is already built into the Plinius 8200 mk2. Currently using a Thorens 145 mkII, Lipinski 505 speakers. Using a high output MC now. Ideally, I'd like to get a phono pre that would at least be capable handling a mid output MC; but right now I'm more interested in getting better sound quality from the cart I have now. Don't want to go the step up transformer route. I don't want to spend over $400 new or used. Would something like a Lehman black cube, or Project tube box be any better in sound quality than what I've got?
