Perfect Path Technologies: Omega E mat

I’m curious about this product from Perfect Path Technologies and would like to hear from those that have experience with it. I’ve bought and used the Total Contact enhancer and like what it does for my system so I’m interested in hearing how this Omega E mat performs.
t_ramey
Tom - yes they attach easily to the metal plate in my head and now I can fly!
@fleschler - they are 20 mil and very inexpensive.  I’m not saying the E-mat is nothing more than an magnetic mat.  I’m sure he did something to it which he for obvious reasons won’t disclose.  I had a few magnetic mats so I thought I would experiment with them.
Another thing to try is separate mats from each other by 1/4” when stacking them using cotton cloth or some other similar material to see if that improves effectiveness.
@sbayne

Great on those magnetic mats and let us know how it turns out. I will not be able to spend $600 per mat so your testing is important to me and many others.
I have found ERS cloth sheets and tape to harm sound in some locations and gear, but improve sound in other instances.  You must experiment and see.  I works great in my balanced power conditioner and not so well in my past CD player or as a shield in audio cable production.
I wonder if using a 60 mil magnetic mat together with an Omega E-mat (stacked) will improve the sound.  Or stacking them or stacking E-Mats as suggested by Geoff with a 1/4" gap.  So many possibilities.
@sbayne.  Because the inventor who seems to know his business has suggested it as a use.
It has been about 20 days with the Mat on the CD player and about 9 days with the second Mat on the breaker panel. The noise floor has dropped further. It allows each instrument and singer to materialize in sharp focus without out any digita glare whatsoever. The music sounds so real that that I am immediately engrossed in the interactions of instruments, vocalist etc.

I have never had this much fun experiencing music from my Hi-Fi with this moderate level of investment.

Thanks Tim,

rc
@grannyring @geoffkait @fleschler  - I will do that and report back

@orthomead - I reread my previous comment and it was a little terse.  If the inventor says it ok to use under a turntable that has a moving magnet or moving coil cartridge then go for it I guess.
My understanding is that the magnet on the mat is relatively weak, so the field it produces is not strong enough, and does not extend far enough, to have much influence on anything.
@ozzy thanks for the update, most interesting. I’m using Bybee Signal Enhancers atm on the consumer unit and find them to help as well. I thought I read during your review of the Akiko Corelli that you were using HFC MC-0.5’s, did you forget to mention or am I mistaken?

I hope you don’t mind me saying but your balanced power transformers seem a bit under rated. Have you considered ones with a larger kVA rating?
@tommylion - I know perfect path tech has said the magnet has nothing to do with the effect of the mat and the: “e mat was put through a number of test to see what materials would stop the effect, 2inch solid marble, 3/8's thick rolled steel boiler plate, 2" solid granite, 1"thick extruded aluminum none of them were up to the task. There is no benefit to taking the cover off your panel, and installing the mat inside the panel.”

They have obviously created something that is very powerful.  I’m just saying based on my own experimenting 8x11 magnetic sheets even with weak magnet fields can change the sound in my system. Speakers and phono cartridges work by using magnetic fields.  High Fidelity has shown manipulating the electricity feeding your system with magnets is also sonically beneficial.  I’m going to add somethings to the mats I have to see if I can sort of figure-out what is going on with the E-mats.

If you move the E Mat less than 1/2 inch away from a ferrous material or shelf there is 0 pull force..I think there will be virtually 0 chance of magnetic interference while  using the E Mat with any product. Tom
Has anyone tried the mats withs your speakers? If so, how did you place them, and what were the results? Obviously you need two.

>>>>Well, there is the inverse square law to consider, I suppose. But the slightly magnetic mat ain’t going to help adhere to the surface if it’s not ferrous, which many things aren’t. The question is whether magnetism is part of how the mat works.
"The question is whether magnetism is part of how the mat works."

Pretty sure my September release is going to raise a lot of new questions, and magnetism will not be one of them.

I have also noticed speculation on my cost to offer my products, as
well as the quality. Quality is my number one priority, not cost.

As far as cost well, I just finished a material batch, and I spent more then I paid for my home, and I don't live in a rabbit hole.

toetapaudio,

Yes you are correct that I am using 20 of the HF MC-.05’s.
The Core Power units can handle 300 watts (for my digital) and 18000 watts for all others including (2) mono block Carver 350 WPC amps

Perfectpathtech,

Yesterday I did notice a pretty heavy mid range suck out. Is this because the bass and treble are further ahead in the break in process? I have about 72 hours on the mat that is inside the breaker panel and is  placed over the breakers.

ozzy
You and me too Grannyring.

I am awaiting on Tim to make available the mats at approx 1/10 size and cost before I can play.
@ozzy Break in it is not. Slowly energizing the panel or component, 7th or 8th day it will snap into place, and further improvements will be  linear. It will have changed again by tonight, again by morning and so on. Just be a little more patient your almost there.

Couple of quick questions, were your speakers and amps new out of the box? If so how many hours are on them?

@uberwaltz Things have changed in the market place, I have placed a high priority on releasing them ASAP! Even considering a introductory offer, so get ready it should be a lot of fun!
Tim
Glad to hear!
Seriously as soon as you release them you will have an order from myself as should be interesting and a bit more wallet friendly to start....
perfectpathtech,

Thank you for responding to my question. Well today the sound seems to be very good. Very peculiar...

Yes my amps were purchased new and probably have several thousand hours on them. The speakers are also new but they have only about 150-175  hours on them.

ozzy

Put mats on top of my Audio Note AN-E speakers earlier this afternoon, with very promising initial results. Can't wait to get two weeks on them!

@ozzy

I could not find your virtual system page and wonder if you made another set of speakers? Can you share what speakers you are currently using? Thanks.
grannyring,

I do need to update my systems page.
I am using the Bob Carver Amazing Line Source speakers.

ozzy
@ozzy, I've heard the Amazings at shows recently and they have sounded amazing, or just OK in a too large room (auditorium) at CAF. Can you tell us what you think are their strengths and weaknesses? I heard a sensational soundstage, very transparent, and solid deep bass.

The combination of TC and the Omega E Mats are the real deal. As the result of using both products in combination, I can honestly say that I have finally, after almost 40 years in the hobby, ended my quest to constantly upgrade equipment. Amazing products.

Frank
Wow! Ozzy your new speakers completely surprised me.  I have often wondered how those would sound. I bet they sound wonderful with the Bob Carver monster tube amps! Nice.
klh007, grannyring,

I have a thread about the Carver speakers on the Audiogon speaker forum. They definitely revealed some issues with my preamp.

For you guys wanting smaller Omega pads why not cut the pad into several sections and place them on several components?

ozzy
I like ozzy's "cutting" idea, and it would be interesting if you could let us know what a cross section looks like.  Does it appear to be all the same and the same material, or stratified layers of differing materials?  If Tim has already answered this, sorry for the duplicate, but not up to reading the whole post at this time.
@ozzy
Yes I read your thread on the speakers at the time, very interesting.

as for cutting up the large pad I would rather just wait until Tim makes the smaller ones available and intend to spend the same amount as 1 large one on ten smaller ones so I can experiment with placement to see where is most effective, then take it from there.

Much easier to justify the possible huge expense eventual in my head at 460 a pop rather than $600 even if I end up with 10 in the same place...lol
Just psychology I know.

I for one would also like to know if anyone takes one to NASA for a good once over with a scanning electron microscope or if the word REDRUM is visible to the naked eye.
Do you think Tim will refund the $600 if it's cut up into a dozen pieces?

"I can honestly say that I have finally after almost 40 years in the hobby, ended my quest to constantly upgrade equipment."

Congratulations on your system success, and your retirement from beta testing.

   LP
There is NO WAY I would dream of cutting up $600 worth of equipment unless Tim stated it would be exactly the same as him supplying 10 smaller mats.
And even then I would prefer his supplied ones to my sure to be hack job...lol.

Buy one Geoff and let us know how it turns out...….
@ozzy, thanks for clarifying about MC 0.5’s, 20 is a lot. I don’t want to derail this thread, is there a thread that describes your set up for how you implement them?

It will be most interesting to hear from you , whether or not they harmonise with the Omega E mat.
ipretiring sez:

  • Congratulations on your system success, and your retirement from beta testing.

Sorry friend, you misread my post. I was referring to "equipment" upgrades, not experimenting with tweaks. I don't think I'll ever be done with the tweaks. I'm a tweak-o-holic.

Stay tuned ... there's another product coming down the pike that I'll be beta testing. Supposed to be a real killer.

  • Do you think Tim will refund the $600 if it's cut up into a dozen pieces?

I'd say no. But then again, why would anyone want to return any of these mats once installed and the benefits enjoyed? Its not like they won't work. In fact, there's more benefit to be gained from the Omega E Mats than any other way that I can think of.

In a hobby where there are phono cartridges costing $15,000, line stages in excess of $30,000, amps in excess of $100,000 and speakers in excess of $250,000,  $600 for a mat seems paltry.

Even if you were to buy six mats, two for the circuit breaker box and four more for under your various pieces of equipment, you'd be out only $3,600. For that dollar investment, you'd be hard pressed to get anything close to the improvement afforded by the six Omega E Mats.

I applaud your impeccable logic. 😛

I understand the trepidation about cutting the mat into smaller pieces.
So I'm waiting for someone else to try it first. And who knows maybe once its cut open stuff may ooze out...

ozzy
My unconditional return guarantee does not  apply if the product is cut or altered. The smaller card should prevent one from cutting up the larger mat. Cutting will alter the performance big time.

First production run of the Alpha E Card is almost done!

Let me chime in on this thread....
I have no vested interest, I am not a troll, but let me share my personal observations from listening to Frank's system evolve over the past two years.
I started going to Frank's place around 2 years ago, when he started installing the SR Black fuses, then the Blue fuses, then the contact paste, and now the eMats...
I have to share my independent observations in Frank's room;  with each step, his sound has clearly improved from the previous version...Frank's system is relatively modest; old Legacy speakers, Audio Research 3, or 5 pre, and a AR 75 amp, $300 modded Pioneer elite CD player, and average cables and power. He has some additional room treatments, with speakers pulled out for near field listening.
The detail, resolution, and lowered floor noise is now unbelievably improved....on tracks that I am very familiar, his system now allows me to hear subtle shimmer and decay that is missing from my more expensive and supposedly more resolving rig( Venture speakers, dCS Vivaldi dac, network bridge, dedicated Room Nucleus + core, high end Transparent reference cables, Shunyata power conditioner, 3 dedicated lines, Veloce battery powered pre, dedicated NAS, with router on  linear power supply, Sablon ethernet cables, etc). His sound stage stretches back deep to the wall, and wide, clarity, resolution in spades, and improved bass and dynamics. The mats have clearly brought his systems to achieving almost the ultimate extraction of digital bits possible. Everything that Frank has described, I've heard independently, He is not exaggerating one iota. I know folks have called him a shill, and over hyped a product, but he is only providing audiophiles, like me, an opportunity to enhance their sound experience with relatively modest cost tweaks.
I have placed 6 mats in my rig for only 48 hours now, one in breaker box, one under amp, preamp, DAC, Roon Nucleus and NB, and Directv player. With only 48 hours, my room has improved, lower floor noise, less grunge, deeper bass, and some of my missing shimmer on cymbals and horn and piano notes is now coming into my room. I am looking forward to completing the break in process. I don 't have full pasting on my power cords, and stopped at the SR black level fuses, not blue. I have paid for my tweaks directly, nothing free. I know there are doubters out there...I simply wish to share my experience from listening to Frank's room, and now my own.
Thanks, Frank....enjoy the music
Bob
Let me second my agreement with Mr. Bob about Frank's system.  However, he has radically good vibration isolation plates under all his equipment and apparently high end cabling.  His CD player is 98% as good as my EAR Acute which is about $5-6,000 with his CD player slightly tighter and deeper in the bass.  His speakers are highly resolving despite their age, especially with the tweaks.
^^^

Thanks Bob and Steve ...

That’s the name of the game for me. As I discover these great tweaks, I love to share them with my friends who are fellow audiophiles as well.

Its just amazing to me how much information is left untouched on our LP’s and CD’s and not revealed to our ears. The tweaks, especially really good ones like the SR Blue fuses, SR HFT’s, the Total Contact, and now the Omega E Mats, can bring out the best in whatever equipment we may have at the present time. Even entry level systems can benefit tremendously from these four tweaks.

Steve is correct. I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time and effort to reduce micro vibrations throughout the system. There’s a lot more going on with my system that doesn’t meet the eye. Reducing micro vibrations and paying attention to room treatments has had a real payoff in the sound department. BUT ... the best so far has been the Omega E Mat. There’s been nothing like the combination of the TC and the Mats to really bring the system around to where it is today.

Tim ... You are a genius. :-)

Frank
Tim has won both the Home Run Derby and All Star Game with Total Contact and Omega E Mats!!!!

Besides a genius, Tim is also a great guy.
Been following this thread, and it has some great people with lots of knowledge involved. So if your going for your first mat, where do you put it?
Breaker box?
under the amp?
under the disc player?
under the pre amp?
under power distribution?
Have not seen (read) a clear answer. All have some positive but not a sheer winner. I know each system is different an it could very some what. But those that have tried several mats where did it give you the biggest bump in performance?
If I could choose only one place to put a mat, it would be the power panel/breaker box, as this will benefit all components (as well as your TV and any other A/V devices plugged into the AC), rather than targeting just one specifically.
68pete,

i second what tommylion says says about the breaker panel but I started with the first one on my CD player and was floored by the improvement.

If if you can swing for two that is what I would do.

Have fun,

rc
I'm now back in town after being gone for 5 days and gave a listen with the four 8x11 magnetic mats on my music server. No doubt another improvement in sound! My 30 additional "mats" also arrived but there was a note in the box saying they could not cut them to size so they sent me a 30' x 2' roll! It actually worked-out well since I was able to cut them to the exact size needed.  I now have 10 layers of 20mil magnetic mat on the inside of my breaker box and 10 layers under or over all my components (excluding the turntable for obvious reasons) including the power conditioners. I sat down for a brief listen and wow! I'm going to let them "cook" for a few days before reaching any conclusions..........
