passive attenuator and good vibes...

I've used an Axiom passive for a few years now-- tried it with everything from vintage Dynaco, high-end tube amps, gainclones, hybrids and others. For some reason, it seems to perceptually enhance the sound in subtle ways. Even when the amp has a built-in volume or passive, adding the second Axiom "opens" the sound a bit more, the background sounds quieter, more natural.

Why would adding a redundant attenuator present a more realistic sense of space than a single one? I use many different front-end sources and amps, so impedance matching is not factor-- the results are consistent.
