Paradigm v/s PSB

I am considering Paradigm Monitor 9 or PSB image 5T. It is primarily for hometheater and some Jazz and Rock music.

I am new to this audio world. I have heard both of them and I cannot seem to distinguish one from the other. I cannot find both the speakers in the same showroom for side-by-side comparison. Any suggestions please....

These speakers, both Canadian are very close in many ways. Crossover design is not identical but similar. Its not surprising that you do not hear great differences as it is hard to remember sound as you move from room to room. The Canadians tend to follow a similar path sometimes called an "objective design" in speakers. I heard the PSB6t and it was nice for the money. However a common comment on these speakers and the paradigms is that they are "bright". This is a result of using aluminum dome tweeters. Aluminum can resonate at high frequency. Both paradigms and Psb's use aluminum so maybe you just like it. That's cool.

Try listening to Thiele, Spica or Vandersteen if you want to hear what a different design will do.

Actually I was impressed with several models of the PSB I heard, especially for the $$$. Some great prices at this site too! Especially strong at imaging if they are set up properly.

Good Luck,

Sincerely, I remain
I HAVE USED THE PSB. SOME SAY THE PARADIGM GET TIRING TO THE EARS AFTER LONG LISTENING SESSIONS SO I GOT THE PSB WHICH ARE LAYED BACK A BIT, MORE TRANPARENT, BY SPECIFICATIONS SUPPOSE TO HAVE MORE OF A BASE NOTE (BUT DO NOT AT ALL)). THE PARADIGM'S ARE A DARK SOUNDING CABINET WHICH SOME MAY APPRECIATE. I HAVE A SET OF PSB PIANO BLACK MINI STATUS MONITORS WHICH ARE TOO FANCY FOR MY GIRLFRIENDS 150 YEAR OLD COLONIAL; SO I MUST SELL THEM.
Find a way to get them both home, where you can test and compare in situ, as they say. Some dealers will lend speakers for trial. You might have to plunk down a credit card and buy them both--just make sure you know what the return policies are. I've not heard these models, but it wouldn't surprise me if they sounded similar, especially in different rooms/systems.
Diva by Swans available online through AV123, that is my favorite entry level speaker, bests Paradigm by a lot, not too famaliar with PSB though. Good luck.
