OT: Using electrostatic motors for a watch movement

I know it's not strictly audio gang, but this is cool. Check out the video clip about half way down the page:

Also, it' snot for sale, so you can't claim this is a commercial post. :)

Damn, I don't know why I always call the Seiko movement a "Swing Drive" instead of a "Spring Drive."

Yes and Grand Seiko too by the way. Seiko is a corporate juggernaut comparable to GE or IBM. Grand Seiko is a tiny little niche of bona fide old-world craftsmen. Saying Seiko when you mean Grand Seiko is like saying knife when you mean Hattori Hanzo sword.
I like the look of that Accutron. I’m a certainly a watch geek and remember when a friend bought the original Accutron...very cool for its day and I was jealous. I got into watches when at 14 I needed to know when to paddle in from the reef breaks in Honolulu (can’t see the people on the shore very well) to be picked up by Mom. Thanks Mom, and she knew a pilot who scored my first Seiko 5 in Japan...said "waterproof" on the case and never leaked, even without a screw down crown. Had a few of those...Now I own piles of (mostly auto/mechanical) watches, most recently a Christopher Ward bronze (designed to rot on your wrist, and it does), and a Ball Trainmaster Power Reserve, neither of these being expensive as far as these things go, and I like the "steam punk" aesthetic. Divers watches and chronographs help time cooking stuff when drinking...trust me on that...

Hi @ebm
I’m sad to see you still can’t find your joy, and seem to be making fun of me being more discerning and less price conscious than many here. Sure, let’s go.

There isn’t a Rolex after 1975 worth wearing (unless given to you as a gift, in which case it is sentimental), but you can sure spend a lot of money on them. My $200 Russian made automatic is more interesting, and my Zenith and Chopard have better movements and look better on the wrist.

Hope you find a way to contribute to Audiogon, or basically anywhere with anyone, which brings you joy and brings joy to those around you.

Best,

Erik

Actually mine's the deep blue dial Limited Edition.
Although kind of hate posting photo's. You are only ever really able to realize the awesomeness of Grand Seiko when you wear one on your wrist.
