Ortofon MC 20 MKII

I was just given an unused Ortofon MC 20 MKII. Does anyone have experience with this cartridge? How does it compare to a Grado Reference Sonata 1? Will a Grado PH-1 phono preamp have enough gain to really check it out or will I need a transformer?

But, in my humble opinion, the Ortofon MC 20mk2 is only an average cartridge in sound, nothing to wave about. My aluminium body Denon 103R simply blows it out of the water.
