Anyone heard it with reference to the analog out?

Sure. There are comments all over the Internet. There's a dedicated thread on AVSforum, too.

I have one and am impressed and depressed at it. It sounds great buuutttt,,, the damn thing clips the output on its analog out after 7 minutes of playback using any format,,SACD DVD-A CD DVD or Blu Ray. The HDMI signal is fine but why buy the SE and not use the analog outs?
They are fully aware of this problem, yet they haven't done anything to repair it so far. Somebody's getting fired on this one is my thought.
Its clips the output 3 times briefly, then plays fine for as long as you listen. Would seem the inspection process at Oppo needs to actually listen before shipping products.

I received my 83SE from Oppo about three weeks ago. Sound is quite good out of the box with both SACD's and CD's (although not as good as my Esoteric SA50).

Re the clipping...I have not noticed that. But I live in an apartment therefore volume levels are kept at reasonable levels.

Did you get clipping only at quite high volumes? Have you discussed this with Oppo? Perhaps the Oppo should be returned in order to get their attention.
I've emailed them, and they are aware of the problem. It happens at low level, any level. They claim that a software update may work or else they will have to replace boards. It's only on the analog outs but I feel they screwed the buying public for even allowing that MAJOR flaw to exist in a player that is supposed to have a major improvement in analog outs over their standard 83 model. If I wanted to use the HDMI or Digital out audio I wouldn't have paid $400 more for the SE model!

Wow. I have had mine for quite a while and have not heard anything like this. Are you using the Oppo's VC?

..and for a few hundred more you can have your SE upgraded to the NuForce Edition. High performance for audiophiles of modest means.
I'm wondering if I've been hearing this clipping as well. However it happened before and after I upgraded my 83 to an SE.

Krellboy does the clipping seem to just appear in the bass regions. Making the bass sound muddy as hell smearing the image. This doesn't happen all the time but maybe only after the player is warmed up?
