Opinion on Tannoy Loudspeakers......

..... I am interested in this line of speakers. Established lineage and just was looking for opinions on their sonic attributes.... there is no US distributor and was also wondering if repair work was an issue. Looking at the DC10a in particular. Thank you in advance

I answered you on your first question on this topic, from yesterday.

1st Audiogon aphorism: "Be patient, Grasshopper. Especially the first weekend following a large audio show."
......that's the first Audiogon Aphorism ??......didn't know that one , but a better one would be - why does it take over 24 hours to post a thread ????.....and still charge you a % of your sale as a third party !
It takes over 24 hour to start a thread on Audiogon every weekend.

I heard a couple pair of Tannoy's at a local dealer a few months back. Not exactly sure of the models, but they sounded pretty damn good to me, paired with McIntosh and Pass Labs electronics. Physically they are too much speaker for me though. My room demands a sleeker design.
HELLO JOHN .....! WHERE DID YOU HEAR THEM AS I THINK YOU LIVE IN PA AND I AM UP HERE IN NY ...WHICH WOULD NOT BE ALL THAT BAD OF DRIVE
Hi Gary, I heard them at Audio Video Expressions in Southampton Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia. A nice little store, there are not too many bricks and mortar stores left around me. They seemed very big on Tannoy though, as I recall, they were the only speaker line they carried that they had set up when I walked in. As I said previously, they sounded very nice, but they are too big for my room.

I went to check out some PAD cables, but the owner was very nice, and I did spend about an hour listening to various Tannoy speakers and chatting with him.
Thanks John .....I have used PAD since 1994 - my whole system is PAD now. I have always liked their cables and Jim Aud is a class act to deal with. If you need any help let me know.
Tannoy Dual Concentric loudspeakers have been around since the 1940's. Parts are available at places like Speakerex, in Fla. Cathy Satin, the proprieter, is a dyed-in-the-wool Tannoy enthusiast, and a frequent contributor to the Yahoo Tannoy forum.

Hans Hilberink's Tannoy website is a wealth of information on Tannoys.

I couldn't afford new or even used Tannoys in the current Prestige line, so I bought ca. 1975 12" HPD DC drivers, converted them to Hard Edge surrounds, and buit custom cabinets and crossovers. They are the speakers I will die with, no ifs, ands, or buts.

I drive mine with an SET 300B, @9 Wpc, in a large room, to concert level (or nearly so) with great detail, resolution, and musical satisfaction hitherto unknown to me.

Do make an effort to listen to Tannoys, they may be just what you are looking for.

Regards,
Dan
I am currently in a very small apartment with a 12' by 16' room. I use a pair of 10 watt or 1.5 watt amplifiers. When I was ready to purchase speakers, a pair of Beauhorn Virtuosos with single Lowther DX4 8" drivers came up at a very good price and were perfect for my current situation. Even though I am a big fan of earlier JBL speakers, I feel very confident in stating that given a larger room, I most certainly would have gone with a Tannoy model (Westminster Royal SE's are sure lovely:)
Tannoys rarely come available on the used often for a reason.
Dan knows!!! Good luck!
