OK, Monitor Audio RX6 or Tannoy XT6F

Hello all. After selling off my "main" system before an anticipated move, the move part is in limbo now. So rather than listen to my very modest "back up" system indefinitely I am exploring a start from scratch project. Cornerstone for now will be a Musical Fidelity A3.2 integrated recently score here. Now, the speaker part. The 2 choices that keep popping up on my short list are the Monitor Audio RX6 and Tannoy XT6F. Both are highly rated and from what I read do justice to many styles of music. I listen to a lot of electric blues and classic rock. Any thoughts/input/comparisons on the 2 choices so far? I am in the market for used, not abused as well. Thanks all! PS. Zu Omen Mk II are orbiting as well but tend to be a bit more scarce....

Going out on a limb here, but here goes... I own a pair of MA Silver RX8s that were in my main system for several years and am very familiar with their strengths and weaknesses.
I have read glowing reviews about the Tannoys.
Soooo...because the Tannoys have that concentric driver I'm pretty sure they will sound more coherent and certainly image better than the MAs.
The MAs will play very loudly and remain pretty clean.
If it were my money, I would go with the Tannoys, but my priorities are coherence, imaging and sound-staging. YMMV

I’m a big fan of Tannoy - so that’s my vote.

You do have to toe-in the Tannoy’s such that if the a line was drawn from axis of each speaker the lines would cross about 6 inches in front of the listener.

I have a pair of Mercury F4’s on my AV system and once I positioned them in that way the image finally sounded complete.

The Dual Concentric driver is even more critical - so I’m told

Have you listened to the Pro-Ac? - I prefer them regardless of model - great speakers

Thanks for the input Tom. Living in rural upstate, NY doesn't lend itself to much in person auditioning. Thnank goodness for audiogon and it's members...

williwonka, thank you too! Never heard Pro-Ac speakers in person but as many others I have read the laudatory reviews of them. I am scanning A'Gon daily for a good deal on used....

beernut, being from Potsdam area. , I hear you, but there is Ottawa and Montreal if you live near St Lawrence Valley.

However, the sheer overwhelming beauty of upstate NY makes everything
else seem petty .

Schubert, you are correct. You forgot to mention the taxes :) I'm in Boonville. All the brick and mortar places anywhere near me (Rome, Utica, Watertown) have folded. So, I rely on advise and internet to do my research these days. Hope it doesn't snow up there.

I had the 8's as well and would definitely recommend them. For a speaker in that price range, my first choice would be the Vandersteen Model 1, but my 2nd choice would definitely be the MA's. You can't go wrong. They do everything right and they're easy to drive.

@sfall, agree on all you said. I've still got the 8s in another system, but now am using Vandersteen 2Cs in my primary system. The 8s are easy to drive and don't have any weaknesses. And I would also agree on the Vandy 1Cs in that price range.
