Nuforce oppo extreme bdp-93 and "the regions"

Hi Goners!

Please explain to me what regions a,b,c and regions 0 to 6 mean and if there is a "universal" machine available.

I'm anxious to purchase a dvd/cd player from Oppo but want to understand these codes....Thanks to all!
