To clarify the first response, when I was routed through the preamp i plugged into the line in section of the amp. To my understanding the preamp boosts the signal from the TT to line level, thus my thinking. Without the preamp, I went straight to the phono input on the amp.
To the other response, it’s an Ortofon OM10 which is a moving magnet cartridge.
It's not clear from your description how you went about hooking your turntable to the Onkyo, but I have some suggestions.
You don't say what cartridge you're using, but the Fluance normally comes with the Ortofon OM10. The Onkyo has a phono input which is intended to work without additional amplification. Try plugging the turntable directly in to the phono input WITHOUT the GoGroove.
If you want to try the GoGroove, plug the turntable in to the INPUT of the GoGroove and run a cable from the OUTPUT of the GoGroove to any of the other AUDIO IN inputs, but NOT the PHONO input.
