Its supposedly using material done a good ways back, like early 90's I recall, with Wright.

That makes me skeptical. If teh material were anything special, we'd probably have seen it a long time ago already.

But you never know. We'll see.

I'm hoping they do something to attempt to make this material more in step with the times. New Pink FLoyd material in 2014 would be a curiosity at a minimum.

You know, something like Porcupine Tree, Muse, and Radiohead all rolled into one. Oh and with both Waters and Gilmour.

Toss in some Dream Theater, Mars Volta, and Broken Social Scene for good luck.
"My guess is that it wouldn't have seemed special then, but when compared to the majority of today's market it will seem special now."

There is lots of current and recent music that might be of interest these days for an old time PF fan to explore these days.

It might be special in that it has been so long since a new PF release, but what I wonder is if it will be special in comparison to say Steven Wilson, Muse, Flaming Lips and other current acts that are somewhat "out there" and also fairly popular.

IF you skip the "popular" part, then there are too many to mention.

The Flaming Lips might be the closest thing today to what Pink Floyd was in their early days before they hit it big, though Flaming Lips have been around for quite a while and may have actually evolved more away from the mainstream over time while maintaining a level of success.
