Mytek Brooklyn - What is an actual upgrade?

Hi Everyone,
Just kind of pondering my system and cash flow. I have the original Mytek Brooklyn (first version, small) and wondering to myself, is there a reasonably affordable DAC today that would be an actual upgrade, as opposed to just different?

I'd especially love to hear from those of you who actually have experience listening to the Brooklyn.

Thanks,
E

I am sure that there is....but what do you consider affordable....$1000 ?, $2000?, $3000 ?

why do you think you need a different DAC ?

Hey @riley804

I don't need one.... I'm just curious if anyone feels there's an upgrade worth the money. It's a fine DAC. Is there a DAC which sounds noticeably better I could afford ? Under $3k?
Best,
E

I would say no to a better sounding DAC under $3K.  Different sounding, but better probably not.
I use a Bryston DAC3 which can be had , at least before Trump’s trade wars, for about 3K.  I used it with a Manhatten I for about 2 years before selling off the Mytek.  They are definitely different sounding DACs.  Honestly, it’s an opinion, nothing else as to which is better

Thanks for the reminder, @Elizabeth
PCX is having a 25% off sale and I almost missed it. :) Going to buy more parts to make up a couple of more shielded power cables.

Best,
E
Sadly they're all out of my favorite power cord material. :(
