You can get Ayon for that little money? That's surprising. My experience with the Jolida wasn't all that great. I rolled the tubes to real NOS Mullards and that helped a lot but my stopped working after maybe 3years max. I think you can get better sound these days.

the first lector cd player (i don't recall its model number) should be considered rather than the lector 6.

i have auditioned many 24 bit players. the main component which makes them listenable is either a tube gain stage or tube output stage.

i must demur from the suggestion to purchase an ayon product.

i have heard several of their cd players and i find them lacking in body and a full fleshing out of upper harmonics.

if i were looking to purchase a cd player today, i would probably not want to buy any currently produced products.

no, i have not heard every player that is available for purchase. however, i tend to prefer older players with tubes in them. one runs the risk of having to replace the laser, which can be problematic.

what i would do is look into players from the 90's and early 200's.

i use a consonance sacd player which is no longer in production.

i also have an audio note cd2 (circa 1992). i like the original tempest and aria.

you should also consider a dac and transport-- for example, with an appropriate tube, the original minimax.

note as well, the "smoother" tubes include 12au7 and 6fq7. if you can get a brimar you won't be disappointed.

I have had the Lector 0.6 in my system for the past 3 years. After changing the 12at7 tubes for some RCA black plates or Telefunkens this is an amazingly musical player. It competes well with my analog front end at 1/3 the price. The controls on the faceplate are minimal and the remote is necessary (I control mine with a Logitech 1100). Recently tried a set of Psvane 12at7 tubes and these brought a different tone to the player that was open and detailed. My personal favorite is when I use my set of Mullard 10m in it. The Lector is an excellent choice that you can taylor to your system with it's responsiveness to different tubes, and the tubes are not just cathode followers. They are the amplifiers (no op amps).

I do not know why my original answer posted twice, but no I have not had to opportunity to hear the Audio Aero Prima MkII or any player in that line to be able to give any comparison.
