There appear to be varying levels of cognitive abilities in different brains and some of us may be able to discern different things. This is not to imply a deficiency in general but in a specific ability. One may have other areas of superior ability. ;-)

Well since you brought it up cleeds yes there are many mentally defective, disturbed, and misinformed persons on this site and in fact your own mental deficiencies have been well noted, recognized, and observed hear including the fact that you do not even own a music reproduction system but merely come here when you have a load in either your pants or yout brain because either and both of them are filled with the same waste material yet you come hear with your sh*t time and time again and interrupt, derail, and degrade conversations and I note your special user flag that you claim gives you special rights here does nothing to enhance, improve, or refine your mentally compromised, profoundly disfunctional, illogical and confused "thinking" which is flattery for someone who has in they’re brain what most infants have in their pants! Of course you can use YouTube to get an idea of how well a system sounds. If you can't or think you can't, then there is something wrong with how your brain processes data and phenomena. Even if you are not hearing the actual system, which you obviously are not, the brain is capable of interpolating the data to make a best guess at comparative interpretation of how you perceive the video.

I never claimed that youtube was a perfect proxy for sound quality. Nevertheless it does give some indication about sound quality and characteristics.
I'm curious why some people who think youtube is a worthless indicator of sound quality?
Is it because the lower than lossless resolution? I know I can tell better quality recordings from worse quality recordings on 192 kbs MP3.
Or is it because people recording systems aren't professionals and aren't recording them with professional equipment?
Or is there another reason that hearing the recording of reproduction of a recording can't give a good indication of SQ? |

A lot can be learned from these demos: 1. Does it sound like music? 2. Is music distortion free? 3. Is there a lot of detail? You can't fake any of these parameters. You can also get a better "feel" with headphones (if used). These demos are a lot better than nothing. |

If you are implying that you can judge the sound quality of a system by listening to a YouTube clip, that is just plain scary for you and terrible advice for anybody else. Audio quality on YouTube is low resolution. Limitations of the mic & technique used in the recording will make great systems apparently suck.
Streamed video is certainly a fine tool to learn about features of gear and to see what others pair it with, but beyond building a list of stuff to check out in person, please don't draw any serious conclusions about the sound quality of the components from YouTube or other video. Cheers,
