Mingus

I just turned 60 last month and for the first time tonight I listened to "The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady" in its entirety. Kinda blew me away. Simply because it's not like any other jazz album I've ever listened too. Words that come to mind are "unique," "gripping," and "avant garde light." Just wanted to share.

All of Mingus late 50's-early 60's are winners. I am on a permanent search for LP's in this period.

That one is a pretty strong "dose"-- not exactly a casual listen.

I definitely have to be in the right frame of mind for it.

Charlie Mariano's playing is particularly intense

He's undervalued as a player.
