If you're any good with a can of spray paint,most removable covers can be sprayed,with good results. Most black pieces are of a flat black nature. My brand of choice would be "MRO". Be sure to give it a light sanding;just to give the paint a better chance. Be sure not to leave any sanding marks;use a sanding block with that light grit paper.---Good luck.---As an afterthought,try painting an old item for practice.
