Mcintosh MVP 871 - a killer on redbook?

I keep reading about this unit on the web as an incredible sounding one. However I just cannot fully believe that a universal DVD player can beat pretty much any dedicated CD/SACD player under $10 000 including Mac's own MCD201 on redbook and get CDs sound as close to vinyl as possible! I'm totally confused my friends. This contradicts all audiophile logic....

This contradicts all audiophile logic....

Then its certainly wrong...

The MVP871 borrows parts from Denon - not surprising since the Denon and Macintosh have the same parent company - D+M Holdings.

The fact that you've got audio and video circuits crammed into the same unit means the audio would be somewhat compromised - certainly not the best sub 10k audio player about.
