matching receiver and speaker question

Hello, I just want to ask the group if it's alright to match a vintage yamaha receiver that has 35 watts per channel with my boston vr-20 speakers that say 50-200 watts. Thanks for the help

Just so you know, speaker watt ratings are meaningless. The spec that matters, the one that really tells you how much power you need, is sensitivity. Boston VR-20 are 93 dB. Anything 90 and up is excellent, as it means your 35 watt amp will run them to a good volume level. This number is crucial, because power needs increase exponentially. Compared to your 93 dB speakers if you had ones that are 90 dB you would need TWICE as much power to play just as loud. Huge difference. So good choice for that amp.
Thank you millercarbon for explaining. That helps me understand this a lot better now.
