Marantz SR 7001

Happy Christmas, everyone!

OK, I picked up an SR7001 to demo from the dealer...it works great so far, but I have one question. My current DVD player has only component video out (no HDMI). I have connected my satellite receiver to the 7001 via HDMI and output via HDMI from the AVR to the display. That works great (audio and video). However when I input the component cable from the DVD player (480p) and set the 7001 to convert to HDMI, the signal that comes up on the display is 4:3 instead of 16:9. Is there any way I can make it a 16:9 signal, or is that just a limitation of converting from component to HDMI?

I spoke with Marantz about this because I am about to purchase this exact model and wanted to hear what they had to say. Basically the tech said there is no setting on the Marantz that has anything to do with aspect ratio. He suggested checking the settings on the DVD player. I imaine you have already done this, so I will be interested to see what you have to say about that.
