marantz SLT 12-u turntable

Hi, I recently received an old marantz SLT 12-u turntable, and I want to know if somebody can advice me about a new (good) cartridge for these equipment. Thanks.

Hi,
I had the old Shure based model back in the 70s. It was a beautiful design but difficult to set up. But once properly balanced it was terrific for its day. Some years ago I bought a used universal version for a second system for old times sake. In trying to set it up I found that there was a bent part that couldn't be fixed or replaced and had to give it all up. However, in figuring out what cartridge to use, I realized that the low clearance of the straight tonearm would only allow for a short body cartridge. Taller cartridges wont clear the platter. Therefore, your best option is a Denon DL 103r. It will fit perfectly and give you great sound. That was my original plan. One of modified versions [wood body or other material] might work as well. Hope this helps.
I have an XV-15 Pickering (750) in mine, so it will accept a "tall" cartridge. Now I haven't used mine in decades, it's in the closet right now, but I'll drag it out sometime when I can do it. Betting it does need a belt.
Thanks for your advice (both). I think I'm going to try Denon and then I´m going to post the result.
