I'm not a Magnepan expert (though I did own a pair of 1.6s for several years) so I may be corrected. However, Magnepan changes models very slowly. They just recently announced a replacement for the 1.6QR after many years (the 1.7 is just now out.)
As such, I'd feel very confident that a 2002 model 1.2 would be very much the same as a current one, assuming it has been well cared for and not abused.
The other thing to consider is that used Maggie prices are quite stable. As long as you don't overpay, you should be able to resell them for about the same price if you find you want to move on.
