magico, wilson audio, focal. your opinion pls

Been auditioned many speakers past 12 months, even more for last couple weeks. I have listened to many brands like b&w, focal, paradigm, martin logan, kef, jbl, polk, and more... It comes down to 3 brands and model that I LOVE how it sounds and within my range. Besides focal, I haven't heard wilson audio and magico until 2 weeks ago (maybe they are too highend for me when I started the research).

Wilson Audio dealer claims that its speaker is the King in the ultimate high end speaker market, hands down. What is your opinion?

I have heard good thing about Magico and Focal as well.

I found these deal and what do you think is the best deal for the performance and how well each brand and model will hold their value?

Wilson Audio Sasha 2. Brand New @ $18.000
Focal Mastreo Utopia III. Demo @ $19,000
Magico S5. Demo @ $24,000

Your opinion please?

Well lets just say not everyone agrees with that - and there are those that would. But such is hardly surprising with High End - opinions vary wildly. I believe my speakers eat them alive - but that's TO MY EARS.

A well known Australian maker of amps, who will go nameless, was searching for a dealer to show his amps off. He walked into a store that had the Wilson Alexia and left shaking his head. He chose a dealer that sold my speakers.

On the other side there is a well known Audio Engineer that goes ga ga over Wilsom Alexias and runs them off Nelson Pass amps. I haven't heard that particular combination but a Wilson expert I know has and thinks its way over etched and brittle.

One mans meat is another mans poison as the saying goes, and its proved time and time again in audio.

Of the speakers you are likely to be able to readily hear in that price range have a look at the Rockport Atria. IMHO it eats all those other speakers alive - but that's just my view.

Only you can decide because its your ears, not mine.

As an example of different people reacting differently to the same speaker check out:

BTW Bruce in that review is the Wilson Alexia guy with the Pass amps. The Wilson expert I mentioned knows both of those speakers very well, owning the ML1 and having installed many Wilson speakers as part of his job. His view is if you like the Wilson with Pass amps you will not like the ML1 and conversely.

Bottom line - learn to trust your ears - not others views - because that's all that counts.

Trust your own judgment and which ever sounds better and gets you more engaged in listening to your chosen music is the right one for you. It's strictly a personal endeavor and this leads to longer term happiness. There's no one who can tell you what is the best choice, that's your call to make. As you continue to listen to the different speaker contenders you'll naturally begin to realize what you do and don't like, this is progress. Take your time and let your ears guide you.'

Well said, and oh so true.
