macmini spdif out vs. usb

Hi everyone, great forum-- I am wondering the group consensus (if there is one) on what would be preferable:

macmini usb > Benchmarc DAC1
vs.
macmini spdif > Benchmark DAC1

of course if spdif is comparable, i can purchase the Benchmark unit without the USB option, saving a couple pennys.

Bruce_1- is there some wrong with the sound quailty you're getting with the MacBook Pro- mini to Toslink connection to your MF Tri-Vista?

How does it sound compared to CDs played on the MF Tri-Vista?
