Machina Dynamica New Dark Matter CD and Blu Ray tray treatment?

This is a set of adhesive-backed thin plastic pieces that one attaches to one’s transport or player disc tray. The disk rests on them during non-spin mode, but presumably don’t touch the applied thin pieces during playback mode. The company says the new Dark Matter pieces reduces background scattered light from reaching the photodetector, thereby improving performance.

Anyone tried this product? Please specify transport or player if you have and your impressions.

geoffkait,

"glubson, we all have our little paranoid obsessions. I hate to judge too harshly but it appears I’m one of yours."
Do not flatter yourself, it is not your lucky day.

The picture with some Geoff, for all I know it could have been you, was right in front of me during my stay at that restaurant. I could not avoid it even if I wanted to. It is true that right now you are truly unique. You are the only Geoff I know, or at least am aware of.
Happy Birthday Geoff

(a note under the Polaroid picture of a guy holding a Japanese umbrella, stuck on the wall of Yuraku Japanese restaurant this evening)
"...A’gon must have discounted those earlier contributions."
Quality over quantity?
celander,

I completely honestly went to see how to order it and found confusing statement in the description. If we are taking NDM seriously, we should take it seriously with no leeway. Truth in advertising, or whatever that would be called.
"I didn’t realize it’s 2022 AD."
Time flies when you are having fun, with geoffkait.

Now, let's see how that flying time impacts our perception of sound and black holes. Einstein, where did you go?
Not to be too picky, but to make sure everything is clear. I went to the audiogon page where NDM is sold and found this description which brings me back to my question from a couple of days ago...

"...for reducing background scattered laser light, thereby improving performance for CD and ALL digital players."
Many digital players do not operate with laser. Would this work on SSD? If yes, ALL is well. If not, maybe a rewrite of the description is in order.
Is Stereophile still in print? That is so 15th century.

After this thread, I am tempted to order this NDM.
celander,

Do not underestimate yourself. You have enough intelligence left for a few more threads like this. If you want to speed the process up, go back in time to "Talk but not walk" thread and see how quickly your head can get vacuumed. Black holes will seem like carpenters’ workshops after that.

To make it better, this thread, as odd as it may be, is way more useful and challenging than any of the cable threads I have seen. There is even some soft conclusion and agreement about NDM, even from usual skeptics. Try that on a cable thread.
Thanks guys,

I was secretly hoping it would be "more or less the same" so I never ever get tempted to redo all my CDs. Appropriate metadata and all that, I need another lifetime.

I noticed people praise jRiver often, I am not sure if it was ripping or other things, so I guess I should give it a try.

Thanks again.

Back to black holes and future of the world.
Is ripping with error checking making much difference? Is there a significant difference in ripping programs?

I have tried only iTunes and dBPoweramp and cannot hear difference with any consistency.
That people report it works? I stand corrected. I was not that careful in following the thread but got an overall impression that reporters were positive about it.

Ok, then, NDM does not work despite my impression that people praised it.
If I have been keeping track correctly, everybody who reported using this NDM did report that it works. It has been only a few reporters, but they were positive about it.

Even with such a small, and easily biased for whatever reason, sample, I would say it is worth trying for intended application. That takes into consideration relatively low price of the experiment.

The thread has been a success. It answered the question "does it work" sufficiently while providing entertainment with theories "why it works".

I just looked up Stanley Kubrick and his involvement on the Moon. Not that interesting.

However, there was a link to a much more audiophile-related and important topic. The moon is only four miles away from Earth. It is closer than some neighborhood grocery stores.

That changes the whole gravitational waves, black holes, and what not theories. Even directionality may be affected.

In practice, if the spring is appropriate and we, one by one please, get free from Earth’s gravitational forces, next AXPONA could be on the Moon.
geoffkait,

You actually have something that is called Super Stiff? Good for you, and the end users. Can you elaborate? mapman seems to be interested in all aspects of increasing listening pleasure.
mapman,

It depends how much listening pleasure you get from laying down. As geoffkait points out, springs are very important in whole story. Mattress manufacturers have always been a step ahead of audiophile community.

It is a great feeling to free yourself of gravitational constraints. Every child on the trampoline would gladly attest.
"...there are some audiophile tweaks that correct for or take advantage of gravitational forces..."
The most common of which are colloquially called "equipment racks" and "speaker stands".

I read more about black holes and related topics in this thread than ever before. Which was not that hard, to be honest.
"Received my NDM..... We now return to our regularly scheduled nonsense."
Come on, give it a chance. Maybe it works.
The title of that video says...

"...captured by team of Harvard scientists and astronomers"
while the text under the video starts with...

"A global team of astronomers, led by Harvard scientists..."
Are all global astronomers from Harvard?

Is there a description of what "led by" actually means?
I am trying to figure out which one was first or which one is more powerful in sucking it all in. NDM vs. Black Hole. It has not been clearly deducted yet.

As of today, I am also puzzled by possibility that celander and geoffkait are the same person.
"...wouldn’t it be more impressive to show us a photo of the supermassive black hole located right here in our galaxy?"
Too late, NDM absorbed it all.
Well, glubber is fine with me. It is fun to see how little you can guess correctly. Geoffy, toffee, coffee, eee, eee, eee...
I am always for clubbing. As long as there is no entry fee. Meetings as often as possible. We can even make geoffkait a guest of honor so he does not feel lonely.
That is a stratosphere of audio reproduction. I cannot follow that. I waive white flag.

Still, I cannot but wonder if NDM placed in my refrigerator would make yogurt feel slightly more organic.
Ok, I will not follow celander's threads. It is creepy to follow threads that are not about differences in cables, indeed.

My fault.

Wait, I thought the threads were out here in the open to be followed.
I have to give celander a credit. His threads somehow stand out of the audiogon routine. They end up being friendly and amusing.

Is there a way to "follow celander's threads"?
thecarpathian,

"Since I posted first, I get to be Gloopy!"
Not so fast, pick anything else but gloopy. That is what geoffkait likes to pet me with.

I have not. That is why, despite having doubts, I abstain from saying it does not work. I barely have any CD around (I keep two CDs and three SACDs, in case I ever want to check if my player still works) so it is all theoretical reading for me. Somehow, discussion about the properties of plants seems more reasonable and useful than coloring CDs so I have been following it with more interest.
Can we have pop quiz about obvious reasons?

"I also sold a set of various color pens for coloring the CD, including the data side; that product has also been discontinued for obvious reasons."
I am torn between "CDs are becoming irrelevant so market is shrinking" and "Staples stopped carrying them".

The latest posts on botanics have been amusing. In fact, following this thread is, sort of, pleasant. Gold stars for geoffkait and celander.
Does this work on SSD and streaming systems? If not, the future for this product is truly dark. Almost black.
In fact, GOSO works as good as, if not better in some CD players, than NDM. Mechanism of action has not been confirmed, either.
Has absorption of invisible light by these NDM squares ever been confirmed or it is just a postulate?
What method was used to measure/evaluate scattered invisible light inside a working (CD is rotating) CD player before and after application of whatever is being talked about here?
"Geoff questioned my first language as English at one time..."
geoffkait questions many things, except his own claims. You could say he is a pseudo-skeptic.

Toot-toot!
georgehifi,

Are you saying that fuses are not directional?

geoffkait,

quick, explain to the man.....what you could not to the rest of us.

geoffkait,

I do not like brownies. Too simple of a taste, I would say.

I answered your pop quiz correctly. What is the prize?

"...the NDM will eat your CDs, destroy the magnetic clamp and ignite your transport, causing it to explode in a massive radioactive fireball."
Do not use it!

Color is your perception, not the absolute value. You also forgot that I may have problems with temperature sensitivity.

I am still waiting to find out what my prize for answering pop quiz correctly is.

"Pop quiz: what color is a Blu Ray laser?"

It depends on temperature of the environment and an individual’s perception of colors.

What is my prize?

At least we have an answer to the question about bees and flying. Probably the only thing we have learned so far.
"Four days without a post anywhere by Geoff, what’s up with that?"
Is that true? It is understandable he does not post here but does he post elsewhere? If not, has anyone heard from him over the last four days? I hope he is well.
