I own a 2170 and have owned a bunch of Maggies including the 1.6QR. The Lyngdorf entered after the Maggies departed, so no actual experience with the two together. I would have a concern about the Lyngdorf having enough power, but if you can make it work, I suspect it would be a lovely pairing. I see no reason why Room Perfect would have issues with dipoles. The program seems pretty adept at figuring out what the speakers are doing and adjusting accordingly.
I would think the 3400 would be more appropriate with the Maggies. I don't know if maybe the Lyngdorf does not like low Impedence or hard to drive speakers but it did fantastic things with my Tektons with room perfect. Did not sound right at all with some Dynaudio C20s and was just so so with some Focals. YMMV. Also made a pair of old Cerwin Vegas sound way better than they had a right to but was underpowered at higher volumes. It was like it was trying to do the right thing but ran out of gas. This was noticeable at lower volumes with the Dyns. I think it's nearly unbeatable if you have the right combo or maybe I just got lucky with the Tektons. I always wondered if the 3400 would be the ticket and maybe I will find out one day on my new speakers.
Funny with the Tektons I had about 18% room correction if I remember correctly, with the old vega dx9s it was like 80+ % same room same position but it made them sound totally coherent without taking away their Vega-ness.
i ran a lyngdorf 1120 with my 1.7i’s (just for fun, to try it, and i really liked the pairing) but then i went to 3.7i’s, and then, got a 3400 to drive them
in terms of power, i thought the 1120 was just enough for the 1.7i’s ... my room is medium size (19 x 17 x 9.5), well damped and i don’t play super loud... 85-88 db peaks - i would think the 2170 would be plenty powerful 1.7i’s for most listeners with average size rooms, of course if the room is lively it will sound a little louder with the same power - but with my going to 3.7i’s, i wanted more headroom, so went to the 3400, which also streams roon directly like the 1120, which the older 2170 won’t do
i think room perfect is a wonderful feature, made a real difference with the 1.7i’s --and a HUGE difference with the 3.7i’s -- which i think is a touch too much speaker for my room, and excites some room modes, which the r-p feature handles beautifully - it is very cool the r-p correction can be toggled in and out, and the difference it makes can be heard very easily
